Jack
Jack is a wanted man...

Jack is not that bright; he just can't seem to figure out why everyone is after him. He is always doing something wrong, breaking some rule, some code, some law. Just when Jack thinks he has figured out how something works, a brand new law steps in and Jack gets beaten up, shot, or run out of town.

"I was just going to get some lunch," Jack was heard to say one day as he was arrested for breaking a whole bunch of laws. It seemed to Jack that he had just gotten into his car and headed to the store. But Jack forgot all about permits, emissions, fees, fines, taxes, regulations.

Sometimes Jack asks questions, because he really wants to learn. "How come you always point guns at me when I don't want to stop and talk to you?" he asked a law enforcement officer once. Jack wondered if he got his own blue shirt and a little metal emblem, if he would still be harassed all the time.

To Jack, the whole world seems cruel. He wishes they would just be nice to him sometimes. Everybody is always telling him to stop, to move, to pay, to fill out paper, to get on the ground, to not go here, to not do that... He wants someone to explain to him how the long words that the people in the big domes write into their books get their magic authority.
